lasicsurgery method
Surgery Method:
Lasik Surgical Procedure & Types :
. Lasik surgery is performed after the eye is anesthetised using anesthetic drops.
. A partial thickness hinged corneal flap is removed with the help of a microkeratome. During this time the patient will experience some little discomfort and a transient blurring of  vision.
. Once the flap is lifted the patient is asked to look in to the target light and a preprogrammed laser beam will be targeted on the bed of the cornea. It will ablate the cornea  depending on the power of the eye.
. During the time of ablation the patients eye will be tracked by a tracking device in the machine and will ensure the correct centreing of the ablated zone. Any abnormal movement of  the eye will be tracked by an eye tracker and the laser will be automatically stopped. The laser delivery will resume once the eye returns to its correct position.
. After the completion of the ablation the hinged corneal flap will be replaced and any debris will be washed underneath the flap. The flap is then pressed against the bed of cornea  to complete the process of adhesion. The flap will adhere automatically.
. Sometimes a bandage contact lens is inserted for firm adhesion of the flap.
. An eye patch is not required and topical antibiotics and steroids will be started immediately.
. Patient will have a sandy feeling and watering for a few hours after surgery but soon will become symptom free.
. Only one eye can be treated in each session. After a few hours the other eye can be treated. Both eyes can be treated on the same day.
. Lasik is an out patient procedure. Patients must attend one hour before surgery and for 2 to 3 hours after surgery.
. Before going home he will be examined and examined again the next day. If necessary an examination may be required on the 3rd day and or one week after surgery.
Facts About Lasik :
. Lasik is a surgical procedure a Laser is used as a surgical tool to reshape the cornea.
. The complications attendant to any surgical procedures are present in Lasik surgery. These are infections etc.
. Complications are rare and Lasik is a safe procedure. All precautions will be taken to prevent infection.
. The amount and duration of laser treatment will depend on the power of the patient and machine used. Each machine has a standard nomogram for the surgical planning.
. Although we aim for zero post operative power, owing to patient wound healing variations and other variable factors we cannot guarantee you will not need to wear glasses.
. Lasik will reduce your dependence on glasses. Most people can manage without glasses although they may require glasses for activities such as driving etc.
. Even in the presence of residual power non use of glasses has no relation with a further increase of power.
. Regression of power only occurs in the initial weeks after surgery and 6 weeks after Lasik treatment the power will remain constant. The higher the initial power the higher the  chances of regression.
. If we cannot attain complete correction and residual power does not allow you to manage without glasses we can usually relasik to achieve a complete correction. Relasik will be  considered six weeks after initial treatment.
. After Lasik surgery patients may experience glare and halos lasting from 1 to 3 weeks and also experience reading difficulties for a few days.
. Patients receiving Lasik treatment in their early 20's may require glasses by the time they are 40.
. Laser treatment should not have any short term or long term side effects.
Procedure For Undergoing Lasik Surgery :
. Once a patient is considered suitable for Lasik treatment, and has agreed to the surgery, he will receive a Preliminary Examination and routine blood test to rule out Diabetes . One  day prior to surgery he will be prescribed topical antibiotics. A normal diet is permitted prior to hospital entry.
. Normally surgery takes place in sessions. Subject to availability the patient can pick the most convenient date for surgery..
