ComprehensiveEye chekup

Comprehensive eye check ups consists of :
1. Preliminary examination,
2. Examination after dilatation of pupil -
3. Special test and/or a second opinion, if necessary.
a) Preliminary examinations will be made by trained paramedical staff.
. First, the refractive status of the eye will be taken using an Autorefractometer.
. Based on the Autorefractometer reading the sight in each eye will be checked for close and distance vision by refraction. If the patients has brought their glasses, the power of the glasses will be measured and the patient's vision will be checked while wearing the glasses.
. Following vision check, a detailed history of the present complaint will be taken and a slit lamp examination will carried out including Intra ocular pressure checkup before using eye drops for pupil dilatation.
. Caution: Dilation of pupil will take around 40-45 minutes. Normally short acting drops like phenylephrine 5%and 0.5% tropicamide are used. Some patients may develop an allergy to phenylephrine eye drops and develop redness and swelling of the eyelids 3 to 4 hours after using the drops. If symptoms of allergy are developed the patient consult the hospital staff for suitable treatment
. After dilation, vision will be blurred for near and distance vision and should avoid driving a vehicle for about 6 to 8 hours after the drops are used. You should always be aware that blurring will occur after using the dilating drops and plan accordingly.
b) Examination after dilatation of pupil :
Dilatation of the pupil is necessary for a complete examination of the eye's anterior segment and posterior segment. Without dilatation a complete examination of the retina is not possible. After examination, using indirect ophthalmoscope and slit lamp examination, the doctor will be able to give you complete advice regarding the use of glasses and medication. The doctor will also advise any requirement for further tests or need for a second specialist's opinion and follow-up.
c) Special test and the opinion of another doctor:
Depending on the type of disease, and to accurately diagnose a suspected eye disease, special test will be carried out. The special tests may be conducted on the same day or by a new appointment. In some circumstances you may be advised to consult another specialist or hospital for further tests.
