Visakha Eye Hospital was established in 1993 by Dr. P Vasudev and Dr. C V Gopala Raju with a vision of establishing an Eye Hospital with state-of-the-art equipment within reach of an ordinary person. The Hospital serves the North Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh predominantly, adjoining Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. Visakha Eye Hospital was registered as VISAKHA NETRA JYOTHI PVT LTD and incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956.
Dr. Vasudev P and Dr. Gopala Raju C V. met each other during postgraduate training in a premier institute Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences of All India Institute Of Medical Science New Delhi, and became good friends and nurtured the idea of starting a combined practice. In addition, both persuaded sub-specialization in different branches in another premier and prominent volume community service-oriented institute in South India, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai.
The Hospital started the journey with a small clinic in rented premises and upgraded year on year by adding all the modern equipment and moved to its premises in 1999. Hospital with 30,000 sqft space with adequate patient waiting, registration, and outpatient service with fully computerized accounting and medical records. It has fully equipped modern state-of-the-art Operation Theatres, inpatient and allied facilities of Opticals, Pharmacy, and Cafeteria.
The Hospital started a charity wing in 2001 after visiting a renowned Aravind Eye Hospital founder Dr. Venkataswamy. The charity wing has an outpatient division in the base hospital, conducts outreach camps, a School children's Eye screening program, and a Vocational training program for paramedical staff.
For the past 31 years, Hospital has conducted around 50,000 Eye Surgeries. It distinguishes performing the various complicated operations and exceptional Eye Care Services with the latest techniques and latest equipment. Surgeries are done on an outpatient (daycare surgery) as is being done in leading Eye Hospital in the country and abroad. In required cases, admission will be decided by the consultant surgeon. The Hospital has two branches, one at Gajuwaka and one at P.M. Palem of the city-suburban areas, to cater to the needs of the people located in those areas.
